We are excited to announce eMINTS is taking our conference on the road!

Instead of a once a year event here in Columbia, we are partnering with MOREnet and EducationPlus to provide you with more opportunities to connect and participate with eMINTS.  Now you won’t have to choose between the eMINTS conference and these other great conferences in our state.

The first is the MOREnet Annual Conference in St. Louis on October 5-8, 2015. eMINTS will be presenting all day in the Burlington Route room on October 5th and 6th.  Then, February 8-10, 2016, we will be presenting at the Midwest Education Technology Conference in St. Charles, MO. We will also host a couple of events including a PD4ETS Update meeting. More details on our participation at these conferences will be coming soon. In the meantime, feel free to check out all of the information on their websites.

Celebrate CSEdWeek with the Hour of Code and AgentCubes!

Next week, Dec 8-14, 2014, begins Computer Science Education Week and “The Hour of Code”, a global movement giving every student an opportunity to try computer science for one hour.

For the second year in a row, our partners at the University of Colorado Boulder invite you to participate in the Hour of Code with AgentCubes, an easy-to-use 3D game design & programming tool. In the one hour AgentCubes activity, every child age 10 and up can create a 3D “Frogger” game, even without any prior 3D programming experience. Teachers require minimal preparation before using the activity in class.

In as little as one hour, your students will code, play, and share their games with children from around the world, all guided by the interactive instructional video. Students start programming in the first couple of minutes of the activity. Check out AgentCubes Hour of Code activity page for more information and to access the activity planning sheet for teachers and the printable tutorial.

For more information on the hour of code and how to participate, visit hourofcode.com.

eMINTS Welcomes Dan Rothstein as Keynote in 2015

eMINTS is excited to announce that the keynote speaker for the 15th Annual eMINTS Conference will be renowned author and educator Dan Rothstein.

Dan RothsteinDan Rothstein, Co-Founder of the Right Question Institute (RQI), has spent many years learning from the people with whom he has worked all over the U.S. and beyond. Dan’s work in the field has been complemented by academic experiences as a student at Harvard College and the Harvard Graduate School of Education where he also was a Teaching Fellow and an Editor of the Harvard Educational Review. Dan was also a Fulbright Scholar and one of very few non-academics to be chosen as a National Academy of Education Spencer Fellow.  Dan is co-author of Make Just One Change: Teach Students to Ask Their Own Questions (Rothstein & Santana, 2011), one of Harvard Education Press’ all-time bestsellers.  Dan’s unusual, interactive keynote sessions are universally valued for how they combine active learning opportunities with theoretical analysis and concrete examples of how the Right Question Strategy helps teachers gain greater joy from their teaching as students become more engaged and thoughtful learners.

2015 Keynote sessions with Dan Rothstein:

  • Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 1 pm: “An Overlooked Foundation for Educational Success: Students Learning to Ask Their Own Questions”
  • Friday, February 27, 2015 at 9 am: “A Simple Decision-Making Framework that leads to Widespread Commitment to School Improvement”

In addition to Rothstein’s two keynote addresses, there will also be many engaging, hands-on workshops and breakout sessions to choose from. Registration opens soon!

Visit the 2015 Conference page for more information.
