Congratulations to Missouri eMINTS teachers presenting at National Social Studies Conference

PBS Teachers® will sponsor four elementary teachers to give presentations at the 78th Annual Conference of National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) "Embrace the Future," held Nov. 14-16, 2008 in Houston, Texas.

Two of the teachers are eMINTS teachers from Missouri: Barbara Jamison and Michelle Nebel taught "digital citizenship" lessons to third and fourth graders last year at Lewis Elementary School in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. Barbara, who taught third grade for 16 years, is currently teaching communication arts in the seventh grade at Excelsior Springs Middle School. Michelle is the technology instructional coach for the Excelsior Springs school district. These teachers will present their classroom techniques to other educators at the conference's "Welcome to the Digital Classroom for Elementary Social Studies" session. The session is hosted by PBS Teachers® and Social Studies and the Young Learner, a journal published by NCSS. Articles by these educators are slated for publication in the January/February 2009 issue of Social Studies and the Young Learner, which has the theme "Welcome to the Digital Classroom." The editor is Dr. Linda Bennett of the University of Missouri.

Missouri Show-Me TechKnowledge event

The Show-Me TechKnowledge Committee invites you to exhibit and/or present a learning activity showcasing technology. This special event will take place at the Third Floor Rotunda of the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City. Exhibits and presentations will be displayed from 8 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on February 3, 2009. Please join us and take advantage of this opportunity to demonstrate to legislators, educators, students and others statewide how technology is currently being used in Missouri schools to enhance learning and improve student achievement. This is an excellent opportunity for your students to shine! Students have the opportunity to visit with Missouri's decision makers and demonstrate how technology in education is important for each school district. With funding a relevant issue in all schools, this is a hands-on opportunity for schools to show and tell our elected officials how districts use and depend on technology.

Applications for the event are available ....

Please submit your application today. Spaces are limited. For more information on how your students can participate or to submit your application visit www.successlink.org or contact Becki Sanders at bsanders@successlink.org or (573) 636-4395 or (888) 636-4395 (toll-free).
