Teacher Evaluation Preparation Workshops

These Teacher Evaluation Prep Workshops provide teachers with a foundation in the process and practice mastering teacher evaluation criteria.

Originally developed for teachers undergoing evaluation in the Missouri based NEE , these workshops can also be adapted for the Missouri DESE system or evaluation designs nationwide.

Series Information

The typical sequence is 4, 4 hour face-to-face sessions which are intended to be completed as a group. However, session duration and formats are adaptable to district needs.
Primary focus is the unit design process, which covers mastery in:

• Dis-articulating standards
• Developing unit objectives
• Composing essential and guiding questions
• Analyzing formative and summative assessment and how assessments support student learning
• Identifying and implementing research based instructional strategies, differentiated instruction, and student reflection throughout the learning process.

Design a unit of instruction around a central concept through:

• Using selected standards and thinking behaviors to support the investigations of the big idea, and to develop focused learning goals.
• Employing Essential and Guiding Questions to help guide students as they explore the big idea of a unit of study.
• Identifying assessment practices that provide students with on-going feedback throughout the investigation of the big idea.
• Developing project-based learning experiences which engage students in the exploration of the big idea.

Evaluation Preparation Teacher Series

Guide teachers in meeting essential standards under the evaluation model to create unit plans for engaging lessons aligned with Standards based lesson plan template.

Developing background knowledge about lesson components such as essential questions and formative assessment, and increase their skills in lesson design using the Backwards Design approach.

The typical sequence is 6, 4 hour face-to-face sessions over 3 days,however, session duration and formats are adaptable to district needs.

Participants experience an engaging model lesson, analyze the lesson to determine what characteristics lead to cognitive and active engagement, and peek into the planning that went behind the scenes. Next, they develop an authentic task that is the basis for an engaging unit. Finally, the concept of essential questions is explored and participants develop an essential question for their classroom unit.

  • Motivates and actively engages students.

Coaching for Educational Excellence: Administrator Series

Guides principals in developing teacher skills from the beginning, first-year instructor through and including mid-career and experienced practitioners.

The typical sequence is 6, 4 hour face-to-face sessions over 3 days,however, session duration and formats are adaptable to district needs.
