a. Select and use appropriate technology for multiple purposes to support learning (e.g., to organize and synthesize information, create authentic products, collaborate, and communicate).

c. Can troubleshoot basic technology issues.

Educator prepares learners to be digital citizens by modeling and teaching appropriate, responsible behavior with regard to technology use.

a. Educates learners about cyber-bullying, including how to prevent and report it.

b. Creates expectations for the use of technology through a well-defined digital citizenship agreement.

c. Models and teaches appropriate online behavior including maintaining a positive digital footprint.

d. Stays knowledgeable of district guidelines for teaching digital citizenship and is prepared to address any situation that may occur in the learning environment.

e. Models and establishes expectations for legal and ethical uses of information (following laws of copyright, correctly documenting sources, etc.).

Learner Exemplars

a. Engage in activities preparing them to identify, prevent and report cyber-bullying (e.g., analyze scenarios, participate in discussions and evaluate online interactions).

b. Protect personal and identifying information.

c. Interact appropriately in digital environments (e.g., online, texting, video chats, sharing photos and files, social networking, etc.).

d. Make educators aware of any infractions that occur.

e. Correctly document sources (e.g., photos, quotations, etc.).

f. Follow district acceptable use policies.

Educator prepares learners to become information and media literate.

a. Demonstrates how to identify, locate, evaluate and organize information from reputable sources on the Internet in an age appropriate context.

b. Demonstrates how to analyze media for validity, accuracy and reliability in an age appropriate context.

c. Locates or produces media that informs, persuades, entertains and/or conveys emotion and feeling.

d. Creates opportunities for learners to communicate and express themselves using various forms of media.

e. Uses varied questioning strategies to help learners interpret and understand messages conveyed through media.

Learner Exemplars

a. Efficiently locate and organize information from reputable sources on the Internet when age appropriate.

b. Independently analyze resources and media for validity, accuracy and reliability by identifying author’s qualifications, triangulating information, examining assumptions, etc. when age appropriate.

c. Produce media that informs, persuades, entertains and/or conveys emotion and feeling.

d. Articulate their understanding of messages conveyed through media.
