The CALL Project expands on our LEGACY (Leading Educators in Government and American Civics for Youth) and builds the capacity of educators as they foster patriotism and promote democratic awareness. What this Grant Supports:

Through the Civics As a Living Legacy Project, educators in grades 6-12 across Missouri are invited to explore new ways of bringing civics and history to life in their classrooms. Designed and led by the eMINTS National Center, these seminars blend online and in-person learning to help teachers design meaningful, inquiry-driven instruction that connects directly to their students’ communities. Participants begin with an online foundations course introducing eMINTS research-based best practices and then join a two-day, in-person seminar focused on the Problem-Solving Through Inquiry (PTI) model. PTI combines real-world problem solving with local context, empowering teachers to guide students in identifying community issues, researching potential solutions, and engaging with local decision-makers.

After the seminar, teachers receive personalized coaching and support as they implement their PTI units during the school year. Each spring, educators and students gather for a Celebration of Learning to share their projects and highlight how civic inquiry can strengthen local communities. Over three years, the program will reach more than 100 teachers and an estimated 6,000 students—creating a ripple effect of civic engagement across Missouri’s schools.
